  • The sheriff's office says the incident began with a robbery at the Capital City Bank on Cortez Boulevard. The suspect fled the scene with a female hostage, then led deputies on a chase.

  • A judge told a woman accused of abusing an 8-year-old autistic boy that she cannot have any contact with children, even her own three. Kaderrica Smith is also banned from dealing with the kids she coaches in Little League and cheerleading.

    Child care workers arrested

  • Firefighters were called to put out flames burning atop a couple of palm trees this week. Bystanders took video of the burning palms, which were roughly 40 feet tall.
