John Wilson signs off after 50 years

November 26, 2014 is officially 'John Wilson Day' in the city of Tampa, thanks to a proclamation from the mayor. But we here at WTVT will remember it as the day we sent John off into retirement.

John is wrapping up a 50-year career in the broadcast television business, including over 30 years here in the Tampa Bay Area. His final broadcast was tonight's 6 p.m. show.

The anchor chair will stay in the family, though. John's son Mark will be taking over as anchor of the FOX 13 broadcasts at 6 and 10 p.m.

"Thanks for such generous comments," John wrote on his Facebook page from the set Wednesday night. "A Wilson will step right in here and I will be watching -- to make sure his tie is straight."
