TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - Angelise Blocker is already dreaming of a big future for her baby daughter, Kylin.
"I want her to be a leader. I really want her to be a leader so other women know that they can do it, they won't give up on themselves," Blocker said.
She isn't giving up on herself or her baby.
Blocker is leaning on support right now from Metropolitan Ministries while she gets back on her feet. Much of that help includes the most basic baby supplies for her daughter.
"It's definitely expensive buying diapers [for] $24, $30," she said.
"We have around 25 to 50 babies at any one time, so you can just imagine how many diapers and how much baby food we go through on a daily basis," said Christine Long of Metropolitan Ministries.
Long said they go through about 4,000 diapers each month, and the need for them is always there.
"We also serve families in the community that come in for food assistance," she said. "They're struggling out in the community and oftentimes they come in and they really need a few diapers or they need some baby food for their babies and so we'll add that on to their food boxes and their food preparation."
Blocker said she isn't sure what she would do without the assistance of Metropolitan Ministries right now.
"It would be way harder by myself and no one would understand because I would be by myself," she told FOX 13.
The nonprofit works to make sure families from all walks of life have what they need to keep their babies healthy.
"I have heard of stories of watering down formula, not having the proper baby food for babies and not having enough diapers. That always breaks my heart," Long said.
But Metropolitan Ministries cannot help these mothers without the community.
"The families we have here are in so much need and we really couldn't do what we do without the support of the community donating things like baby supplies to our moms to make it all happen," she said.
That support means everything to moms like Blocker.
"So that moms will know that they're not by themselves, they have help from the community," Blocker said.
Just before Mother's Day, FOX 13 will be hosting a baby supply drive on Friday, May 10, from 7 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
Viewers can come to the FOX 13 studios located at 3213 W. Kennedy Boulevard in Tampa, drop off donations and meet members of the FOX 13 family.
The Metropolitan Ministries truck will be located behind the station on North A.
The most needed supplies include diapers, baby wipes, baby formula and baby food.
