Metropolitan Ministries now helps in Pasco, too

- The manager of outreach at the Pasco County campus of Metropolitan Ministries says a lot of people don't realize that the charity expands beyond Tampa.

"We are constantly getting that, from phone calls -- daily -- to just people driving by," Mary Treichel offered.

A building that once housed a church off of U.S. 19 in Holiday is now the place for a new kind of hope in Pasco County.

"Pasco is just in sore need of more resources for the poverty, for the people who are homeless, who are about to be homeless," Treichel continued.

Over the years, she has seen that need increase.

"We had days that on a Friday, we might see five or six families. We see five or six families easily in an hour. Sometimes as many as 50 to 60 families in a day," she said.

For many, Metropolitan Ministries Pasco is their only hope to provide a nice Christmas for their children.

"We have a lot of families that these are the only toys they're getting and they will literally be coming in and registering for the holidays up until Christmas Eve."

She can't stress enough how much community donations mean to these families, especially during the holidays.

"They will come in and they will break down in tears and say, 'I can give my child a toy for Christmas now,' and they might not have had anything," Treichel added.

Metropolitan Ministries Pasco is located at 3214 U.S. Highway 19 in Holiday. For more information on how to help, go to
