ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - Pinellas County residents made quick work of stuffing the bus Friday to help kids go back to school with all the supplies they need.
The FOX 13 News Stuff the Bus school supply drive brought people of all walks of life to donate composition books, pens, pencils, backpacks, and classroom supplies.
The Pinellas Education Foundation’s Rich Engwall said there are 60,000 students in Pinellas County on free and reduced lunch. These supplies will go a long way in helping them start the school year in a positive way.
“We’re making a tremendous impact,” Engwall said. “A lot of students are going to start back to school this year with little or nothing in their backpacks if they have backpacks at all. So the contributions made today make a tremendous impact in the schools.”
He said the donations also help teachers who feel they need to provide for those students who may not have resources.
There will be another Stuff the Bus event Wednesday, August 8 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at St. Petersburg City Hall, located at 175 5th Street.
