Millions of Samsung top-loading washers being recalled

- Nearly 3 million Samsung top-load washing machines are being recalled due to violently and excessively vibrating and breaking apart, causing several serious injuries.

The Consumer Protection Safety Commission says the recall involves 34 models of Samsung top-load washing machines that have mid-controls or rear-controls. The machines were sold at Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, and other appliance stores between March 2011 to November 2016.

So far, Samsung has received 733 reports of the top of the washing machine detaching due to to excessive vibrations. There have been reports of nine injuries including a broken jaw, injured shoulder and other fall-related injuries.

The commission says consumers should contact Samsung immediately to find out if their washer is being recalled.

Consumers can access the model numbers on two labels that are located on the back of the machine.

Samsung is offering three options for consumers. The company will provide a free in-home repair that includes reinforcing the washer's top and a free one-year extension of the warranty. Consumers can instead opt for a rebate to be applied toward the purchase of a new Samsung or other brand of washing machine and Samsung will provide free installation of the new unit and removal of the old unit. Another option is a full refund for consumers who have purchased their machine within 30 days of the recall announcement.

To contact Samsung, consumers can call the toll-free number: 866-264-5636 from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. or find them online at www.samsung.com.
