DADE CITY (FOX 13) - A local teen from Pasco County is in the spotlight on FOX’s 'So You Think You Can Dance.' Family and friends got together to watch Monday night’s episode, and find out if the hometown star made the cut.
For Victoria Neukom, it’s been a whirlwind journey that started months ago. After applying for Season 15 of SYTYCD online, the 18-year-old from Dade City was suddenly auditioning in the big apple.
“I did my solo, and they all stood up and gave me the ticket,” she said.
That ticket was Victoria’s pass to The Academy, an intense week in Los Angeles where 70 dancers are cut down to the top 20 for the show.
“I was just this small town dancer and I was all the sudden put on this huge stage,” said Victoria. “I had the judges in front of me, I was around all these amazing dancers, and I was fighting for my life, it was insane, dancing the hardest I’ve ever danced.”
Victoria has a passion for dance that started when she was just a toddler. Her mother, Debbie, put her lessons at nearby Blackwood Studios.
“She started dancing when she was four, I started her at the local studio and she absolutely loved it,” Debbie said. “There’s never been a day she’s ever complained about going to dance.”
“She’s very lovely and she’s taken what we’ve been able to give her and make it her own,” Blackwood Studios owner Sally Blackwood said. “Her choreography is absolutely fabulous.”
It’s taken hard work, constant training and dedication to make it this far.
Victoria made the cut this episode, and says was a grueling and intimidating week.
“I can’t say much about it yet but it was incredible, she said. “We had a bunch of different rounds of dance, it’s always like that, so we had to do styles that we weren’t necessarily comfortable with.”
She won’t give away any more, so everyone will have to tune in next Monday for So You Think You Can Dance to find out if Victoria makes it into the top 20.
