TAMPA (FOX 13) - Arianna Tankersley is never far from the court. She's been playing basketball since she was a kid and can't imagine her life without the game.
"I love the game. I've always had a passion for it," said Tankersley.
She and the rest of the basketball players at Florida College have more than just a passion for shooting hoops. They've got a heart for helping others .
"We're so fortunate. And there are others that don't have anything. It's mind boggling. It's hard to think about," said Florida College basketball player Darian Anthony.
So they've teamed up with Soles for Souls, an organization that distributes shoes to people all over the world. Because who knows more about the importance of a good pair of sneakers than basketball players who are always on their feet.
"Being on the court, being able to run, jump, move, and cut, all while being comfortable, is amazing to me," said Anthony.
The team has held shoe drives on campus and during games. Some players even donated their old stuff.
"I'm going to donate my shoes tonight and donate some tomorrow," said Tankersley.
No shoe is too worn for Soles for Souls. Each pair serves a purpose and depending on the condition, it's either distributed, repaired or recycled.
"A pair of shoes can go a long way, even when you're finished with them. They can help someone else out," said Florida College Women's basketball coach Cornelia Jones.
It's a simple thing, donating an old pair of shoes, but it's made a big difference. Not only for people the all over the world who need them, but for the guys and girls on the giving end too.
"It's not only challenging us as a basketball team, but also challenges us as a family and also as friends," said Anthony.
It's a challenge the team say they are happy to take on. And they tackle it the same way they handle competition on the court... together as a team.
