THONOTOSASSA, Fla. (FOX 13) - School officials in Hillsborough County have taken students on an immersive experience outside of the classroom.
If you were a 6th grader in a Hillsborough County public school sometime within the last 50 years, you may have visited Nature's Classroom. It provides an adventurous field trip that allows for plenty of hands-on learning.
The activities have changed over the course of that time – kids no longer get to shoot BB guns – but it’s still a valuable source for the county, and a memorable field trip for students. It's located in northeastern part of the county on 365 acres of land. Students can also participate in a three-day immersion program to study the Hillsborough River Watershed.
Nature's Classroom is also hosting their annual Open House this Saturday, and celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.
