Starting the day with stars and stripes

- Cadets at Sarasota Military Academy start each day in a very patriotic way: The national anthem and Pledge of Allegiance echo through the courtyard before classes begin.

Charley Belcher was on hand Friday for his first Cool School segment of the season.  SMA-Col. Christina Bowman explained that the 800 cadets at the charter high school and 600 in the middle school participate in JROTC, but get a mix of military and traditional educations featuring an IB curriculum.

“It’s a beautiful blend between education professions and retired military,” she said of the teaching staff.
