Art lovers can find beautiful masterpieces in downtown St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Welcome to Beach Drive. There's a lot to see and do on this beautiful stretch of waterfront road in St. Pete, including a stroll for art lovers.

Inside the Dali Museum, you will climb a winding staircase. At the top, you'll learn about the stories behind some of Salvador Dali's most iconic pieces and hear the love story between him and his wife, Gala.

The way Dali plays with his art in the famous "Hallucinogenic Toreador," you may first see beautiful Venusian goddesses. But look closer, and you'll see a bullfighter with a green tie, a red cape, and a hat on. Another must-see piece is "Gala Contemplating." If you take a step back and look closely, you'll see Abraham Lincoln. 

Before you leave, make sure you stop at the cafe on the way out for one of the house specialties -- Tortilla Espanola. It's delicious!

From the Dali, pick up the Looper Trolley, make a few friends, and get off at the Birchwood for the next stop on the art lover's stroll. 

Before entering the Museum of Fine Arts, top and have a little picnic under one of the city's beautiful banyan trees. Go ahead, take some time for yourself.

Right next door is the Museum of Fine Arts. This was the city's first art museum in the mid-1960s. It houses the richest, most eclectic galleries in St. Petersburg from world famous painters like Gauguin and Renior. See the subtle color and soothing appeal of a Monet piece "Houses of Parliament: Effect of Fog, London" and the detail and dimension of Georgia O'Keefe's "Poppy." It shows you the true talent in painting such a simple thing of nature. You could easily spend the day in this museum alone.
