PALM COAST (FOX 13) - A dog rescued from south Florida is getting some much needed help after investigators say someone set her on fire.
Detectives are trying to get to the bottom of what happened.
The dog, named Phoenix, is under close watch in Palm Coast.
The foster family says Phoenix was found wandering in Homestead. Investigators believe the dog was set on fire and was loose for a week before he was found.
The Tampa based animal group, Pure Hearts Rescue, came to pick the dog up and take her to the Atlantic Animal Hospital in Port Orange.
“It looked like the accelerant was gasoline and it looked like someone had intentionally set her on fire,” said Jaime Jurgenson who is taking care of the dog. “We’re hoping someone did it on accident killing some ticks, but we just don’t know.”
Phoenix is now recovering at the medical foster family in Palm Coast.
