Burke Co. woman has close encounter with bear

- Check this out - a close encounter with a bear!

Kristen Jones says she was relaxing by Lake James last week when she came face-to-face with the wild animal.

But at first, she didn't know exactly what she was dealing with.

In fact, she though it was one of the neighborhoods dogs when it snuck up behind her.

"Something sniffed my shoulder, and then I felt something wet along my neck and ear, reached up to pet the dog, felt weird, turned around, and it was not a dog. It was a bear," Kristen Jones told FOX 46 Charlotte.

Jones said she froze and the bear wandered away...but not before she snapped a few photos to post to her Facebook page.

It wasn't until she was out of danger that the impact of the encounter really hit home.

Jones said she sobbed, realizing just how close she came to a horrifying end.
