Police: Teen threw toddler down stairs before stabbing him to death

- The 16-year-old boy accused of stabbing his little brother to death made his first appearance in court and Shae Holloway will be tried as an adult.

Investigators say the attack came without warning or any provocation.

According to police, Holloway stabbed his 3-year-old brother, Princeton, on Saturday night.

"This is a double tragedy for us, for myself and for the family that we have two children that were taken away from us basically," said Bob Culp, Holloway's grandfather. He says he's also Princeton's grandfather.

"Princeton was the type of child that would light up a room and I know you hear that all the time. Never hurt anybody, never did anything but be a three year old kid."

Holloway made his initial appearance in court on Wednesday.

Court documents give more information as to what happened on Saturday. Police say Holloway threw his brother from the second floor of their Youngtown home to the first floor. Afterwards, Holloway ran down the stairs, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began to stab the 3-year-old child. Court papers also show he stabbed his 9-year-old sister after she tried to stop the attack. Fortunately, she is expected to be okay.

Police say Holloway did this without any warning. His grandfather can't believe it.

"He's the most, one of the most loving kids I've ever known in my life and I don't know if I'll ever understand what happened."

Police say Holloway did admit to them he killed his brother, but didn't say why or how. He's facing charges of second degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and endangerment.
