VIDEO: Shoplifter beats clerk, tries to escape business

- A clerk at a Charlotte gas station did not back down after he spotted a customer attempting to steal an item from the business.

The incident happened at 7:12 p.m. Tuesday, September 27 at the XPress Mart located at 4200 Glenwood Drive, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The clerk told officers he caught a woman trying to steal an item from the store. When he attempted to confront her, the woman assaulted him with a glass beer bottle.

The clerk then locked the woman inside the store, calling 911. The ordeal was captured on cell phone video by witnesses on scene.
