PHOTOS: Sand sculpture recreates now infamous Gov. Christie beach photos

- Some New Jersey beach-goers may have spotted Governor Chris Christie on the beach more than once over the extended holiday weekend, thanks to a sand sculpture that was created Tuesday.

Folks on the beach in Seaside Heights were met by a large sand sculpture replicating the now infamous photos of the governor sitting in the sand at Island Beach State Park during the state’s government shut down over the weekend because of a budget impasse.

Photos of the sculpture were shared on the @thebikiniboys Instagram account, with the caption, “Today's sculpture: @chrischristie sitting on his new private beach! #beach #newjersey #4thofjuly #chrischristie #seasideheights”

The pictures of the two terms Republican governor sitting on the closed beach sparked a global reaction: countless memes featuring a Photoshopped cut-out of Christie in a beach chair, headlines on international news sites and a full-scale media blitz from Christie's spokesman.

"If they had flown that plane over that beach and I was sitting next to a 25-year-old blonde in that beach chair next to me that's a story," he said. "I wasn't sitting next to a 25-year-old blonde. I was sitting next to my wife of 31 years."

Christie signed the $34.7 billion budget early Tuesday and sounded an unapologetic tone over the aerial photos snapped by that showed him at the state governor's residence at Island Beach State Park.
