United Airlines at LAX brings 'comfort' to frazzled fliers with man's best friend

The hustle and bustle of holiday travel can be stressful, but not for two black Labrador Retrievers named Harper and Jackson. The dogs are at Los Angeles International Airport to help calm passenger’s nerves.

“Once we are seated and we are waiting on the plane just to sit and pet a dog that’s calming,” one passenger said.

The comfort dogs are part of the United Paws Program with United Airlines at seven airports across the country.

“We’ve been doing this for about four hours now and we have nine dogs that are here at LAX,” United Airlines Customer Service Representative, Susy Navasanchez, said. “The reaction has been really good.”

Navasanchez said, the comfort dogs are a way to bring some cheer to passengers, especially the kids, this holiday season.

“This absolutely puts you in the spirit and gets you in the mood for a long flight,” one parent said.

This is the first time the airline is hosting the United Paws program at LAX in terminal seven. United is expecting 120-thousand people to pass through the terminal between Monday and Wednesday when the dogs will be on site.

“I’m pretty proud of the way the dogs are working here today,” Cathleen McMurre said of her dog Fargo. “They seem to be all doing really well and doing their job.”
