Bill would expand state's medical marijuana laws

- Florida lawmakers have a new medical marijuana bill to consider.  Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Shalimar, announced on Wednesday that he has filed Florida House Bill 307.  Sen. Rob Bradley, R-Fleming, said he will sponsor a similar bill in the Florida Senate.  The measure would expand a law that allows terminally ill patients to use experimental drugs to include non-smokeable marijuana of all strengths and doses.

Gaetz and Bradley sponsored Florida’s Charlotte’s Web law, which took effect over a year ago. It legalized a strain of medical marijuana that is low in THC, the chemical that makes you high, for some patients.

If approved, HB 307 will require two doctors to determine if a patient is terminal before they would be eligible for the high-THC marijuana.
