Deputies: Man tried to abduct child in Dunedin

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who tried to kidnap a child on Friday.

The incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. as the 8-year-old boy was walking from his bus stop on Colony Drive in Dunedin.

According to deputies, the child reported that the man said, "I work with your dad and he wants me to pick you up."

The man then reportedly got out of his vehicle and began approaching the boy. The 8-year-old was able to run home and tell his parents, who called 911.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic man between 30 and 40 years old. He is tall with an athletic build and possibly has freckles on his cheeks. He is reported to have dark brown hair with a short mustache.

Deputies said the man was driving a small silver or gray newer model SUV. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
