Skull fragment found on beach 'hundreds of years old'

- The Volusia Medical Examiners Office on Thursday informed the County's Beach Safety Unit that a bone fragment found on stretch of Daytona Beach earlier this week was, in fact, the top part of a human cranium.

The skull fragment is estimated to be hundreds of years old and was sent to the Anthropology Department at the University of Florida for further study and precise carbon dating.
