Teen bit by shark in New Smyrna Beach

Volusia County Beach Patrol officials said a teenager was bit on the hand by a shark Sunday morning.
 
Officials said the bite happened around 8:45 a.m., Sunday in the area of 1700 North A1A in New Smyrna Beach.
 
The teen was on a surfboard paddling out when he felt the bite to his left hand.
 
Officials said the teen reported the shark to be about 4-5 feet in length and he suffered cuts to his left hand.
 
Officials said the teen punched the shark in the nose and was able to get away.
 
The teen was treated on scene by paramedics for non-life threatening injuries.
