Orange County teen badly injured during social media ‘fire challenge,' aunt says

- A 15-year-old Pine Hills boy is hospitalized tonight because of something on social media called the "fire challenge," according to the teen’s aunt.  It happened Monday night at a house on Forestdale Drive in Orange County.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson says a group of teens “dared” each other to do stunts.   The boy doused himself with a flammable liquid and told his friend to light a match and hold it to his clothes, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the friend followed the directions, and the victim received second-degree burns on his arms and back.   The boy was initially listed in stable condition at Arnold Palmer Hospital, but he had to be flown to a Cincinnati hospital after his condition deteriorated.

There are currently no charges pending.
