LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (FOX 13) - Disney has announced several major changes for Epcot ahead of the Walt Disney World Resort's 50th anniversary.
Disney posted Thursday about plans for a "play pavilion" as well as a re-designed main entrance for the park.
The theme park will unveil the new play pavilion at the space previously known as Wonders of Life. According to Disney, the new area will be "devoted to playful fun" feature an interactive "city" with plenty of hands-on activities for kids to enjoy.
“This innovative, new pavilion is beyond anything we’ve ever created and is completely unique to Epcot,” said Zach Riddley with Walt Disney Imagineering. “Built on the power of play, it introduces an immersive and interactive ‘city’ where you can explore, create, and interact with some of your favorite Disney characters.”
Epcot's main entrance will also be getting a makeover.
The plaza between the ticket gate and Epcot's iconic "Spaceship Earth" sphere will get new pathways and green spaces, along with a reimagined fountain. The "Leave a Legacy" photo display will be moved just outside the park's gateway, Disney said.
Disney did not give a specific date for the changes, but said they will be open in time for the resort's 50th anniversary in 2021.
