HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (FOX 13/WSVN) - A would-be thief attempted to rob a Florida jewelry store, but the owner and his wife stepped in and made sure nothing was taken from them.
Surveillance video released by the Hollywood Police Department showed footage of the brawl that broke out amid the attempted robbery at DSH Jewelers. The store owner, Daniel Setton, said it was the fight started over a gold chain.
“He just wanted to come help himself,” he explained to WSVN.
The suspect walked into his store on March 2, police said, and complained about a broken chain he had previously purchased and demanded a new one. Before Setton could discuss fixing the man’s jewelry, the man was already behind the counter, in a restricted area, trying to get a new necklace on his own.
However, 74-year-old Setton intervened, and punches were thrown between the two. The store owner was previously in the Israeli Army and is a Krav Maga instructor, WSVN reports.
Setton’s wife also stepped in.
“She tried to help me,” he recalled. “She was taking the yardstick and tried to help me. She was hitting me more than she was hitting him.”
The suspect grabbed the broken chain he already came in with and left. Setton followed him to his vehicle in the parking lot in the 2800 block of Sterling Road. Hollywood police are searching for the suspect.
“I had to protect,” Settong said. “What am I going to do. I don’t have another choice.”
