Miami Beach officers save 89-year-old woman trapped under bed

- Two Miami Beach police officers are being called heroes after rescuing an 89-year-old woman, who spent several days trapped under a mattress.

Police released body camera video of the moment when the officers Whismick Charles and Pablo Gonzalez arrived at the home to help Violeta Pilgrim. The duo was called out to the home by a concerned family member who had not been able to reach Pilgrim.

The officers knocked on Pilgrim’s front door, but receive no answer. Instead of leaving, the officers walked around the grounds of the home, banging on windows. That’s when they saw Pilgrim on the floor trapped between her mattress.

One of the officers pulled the screen off the window and rescued her. They learned Pilgrim was trapped under the bed with no food or water for six days.

“It’s surprising,” Charles said. “I can’t go six minutes without food or water, so you can only imagine six days.”

Officials said Pilgrim has a long road to recovery.
