Two Jacksonville police officers shot Friday

- Less than an hour after two police officers were shot, one fatally, in Kissimmee, Florida, two officers were also shot in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said one of the officers was in critical condition Friday night, and the other was listed as stable.

It happened in the 5100 block of Seaboard Avenue. In a press conference early Saturday morning, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said police officers had come to the address on a report of a suicidal person, with three other people believed to be in the house with the person.

One of those people made the call to police, saying they and two others retreated to a back bedroom to stay away from the suicidal person.

That person, Derrick Rashard Brabham, 25, armed himself with a shotgun, the sheriff's office said.

As the officers, Officer Kevin Jarrell and Officer Mike Fox approached the house, they heard gunfire. Fearing the worst, they approached the house. That's when they say the suspect began to shoot through the door at them.

The suspect then came out of the front door, firing shots at the officers. They returned fire, shooting Brabham, taking him to the ground, the sheriff's office representative said.

The Brabham died later at the hospital.

Both officers were shot during the incident. Officer Fox was shot in both of his hands. A picture released by the sheriff's office show the damage to his gun as a result.

Officer Jarrell was shot in the stomach and was in the hospital Saturday morning.

The officers and the suspect were not being identified early Saturday.

The sheriff's office said all three victims inside the home with the suspect were unharmed.
