TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - In its 35-year history, WWE’s biggest annual event, WrestleMania will close out its show with a women's match.
WrestleMania 35 will be the peak of a showdown that has been brewing for months: a match between Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. All three female wrestlers – and their feud – have remained a popular storyline among fans, and they will battle it out for the Raw Women's Championship title. The show will be held on April 7 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Rousey is currently the Raw Women’s Champion, and joined the WWE in 2018, making her in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34. She was also the first female UFC Champion and the first women to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Speculation has been spreading in the past year that Rousey may take a hiatus after WrestleMania 35 to have a family, but those rumors have yet to be confirmed.
Charlotte Flair, daughter of two-time WWE Hall of Fame Ric Flair, has paved her own WWE path and is a seven-time champion in the organization.
Becky Lynch is the current 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble winner after she surprisingly replaced another female wrestler, Lana, in a last-minute decision. She is a two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion and was named Wrestler of the Year by Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports last year.
Last October, WWE aired an all-women’s pay-per-view event, titled “Evolution,” for the first time. Earlier this week, Nikki Bella announced she will retire from WWE. Her twin sister, Brie, confirmed her own retirement earlier this month.
WrestleMania 36 will be held in Tampa, Florida. Ticket sale dates have yet to be announced.
