Newborn makes it through Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma

Less than a month old, Gabriella Coane is turning into quite the little storm chaser. She’s survived both Hurricane Harvey AND Hurricane Irma.

She was born just a week before Hurricane Harvey. Her parents, Bruce and Jessica, sheltered in their Houston apartment with Gabriella while the hurricane flooded parts of the city. When they heard about toxic fumes in the air from a nearby chemical plant that had exploded, they decided it was time to travel to their other home in Miami.

However, they couldn’t fly there because Gabriella hadn’t received her vaccinations yet. So the family avoided Harvey and its aftermath by taking a 1,200-mile-long road trip through five states.

Bruce told, “We spent the night in Dallas, and the next day we drove about 10 to 12 hours to Destin, Florida, and spent the night there. The next day, we drove 10 hours to Miami—that’s when we heard Hurricane Irma was headed our way!”

So they evacuated again and found a hotel in a small town in Alabama. Since they had driven that far already, the family decided to head all the way back to Texas.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Bruce.
