Puppies rescued from dog meat farm in Korea

These adorable Jindo-mix puppies will never know just how lucky they are. They were rescued from one of thousands of dog meat farms in Korea. According to Animal Humane Society, several million dogs are killed each year for use as food.

Worse, sometimes the dogs are tortured due to the belief that it enhances the quality of the meat. It's old folklore that it brings virility to men and helps with body temperature.  It's usually men over 50 that are actually eating the dog meat. The younger generations in South Korea are more about companion animals.

And there are South Korean animal advocates like Nami Kim who recently rescued 300 puppies- offering the farmer another way to make a living. These ten were flown to Golden Valley, Minnesota- to be placed for adoption..

The Humane Society believes the pups can serve as ambassadors to shed light on the dog meat farm industry- and hope it will show Koreans the value that we place on them.

The rescue was a highly coordinated effort between activists and donors. You can contact your local humane society to see how you can help. And we’re sure these happy pups will have no trouble finding the loving homes they deserve.
