Science can predict dedicated dads

Pregnant women experience some incredible hormonal changes- but did you know that the father does too? And that by simply testing his testosterone levels during the pregnancy- you can predict his future dedication?

A study from USC published in Hormones and Behavior looked at the shift men experience from being "focused on mating" to being "focused on parenting." High levels of testosterone, associated with aggression and competition- are useful for beating out your romantic rivals. Lower levels are associated with being nurturing- and are found in men who are involved in caring for their children.

The study found that the levels of testosterone in men steadily decreased as pregnancy progressed. The changes in the fathers and how in sync their testosterone levels were with mothers’ could predict how invested, committed, and satisfied with the relationship "dad" would be after the birth of the baby.

So while Mom's hormones may have her preparing the baby's nursery, Dad's hormones are preparing his brain. And his heart.
