Sydney Hampton is no stranger to surprises. She was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer as a junior in high school. Her diagnosis followed the death of her father who lost his six-year battle also with cancer.

"He passed away a little over a year ago, and three months after he passed away, my daughter was diagnosed with cancer," said Eileen Hampton, Sydney's mother.

On Friday, Sydney was greeted with a different type of surprise. Surrounded by her friends and family, her school day was interrupted.

She was then told her wish was being granted by the Make a Wish Foundation - and she was leaving immediately for Los Angles to attend the People's Choice Awards as a VIP guest.

"When they told me that I did get it, it was pretty exciting to think 'wow, I'm actually going,'" said Sydney.

Her journey has been filled with many uphill battles.

"Just the thought that I had to lose my dad, and then I got it," said Sydney. "It's something I never thought would happen."

However, through chemo and surgeries, she hasn't given up.

"She's really strong, I know she's handling it well and she's like the best person to get through this," said Sydney's brother, Hunter Hampton.

Sydney, normally reserved and quiet, broke down in tears on Friday. She said they were happy tears as she now is able to begin a new chapter she thought she might never see.

"Ever since I got cancer, it was kind of like everybody doing everything for me, so this is kind of like the last thing," said Sydney.

Her red carpet look is now ready, and on Sunday, her wildest dreams will become a reality.

As a senior in high school, she has big plans ahead. After she graduates, she hopes to attend college. Her mom said she has already been accepted to seven different universities.

Sydney is currently in remission.
