VENICE, Fla. (FOX 13) - It’s a tasty tradition from Venice: Thousands of paczki are being eaten before Ash Wednesday.
They're a special Polish delicacy -- a glazed sweet bun filled with jelly or different types of cream.
'Yummie's Donuts and BBQ' in Venice has been making them for 30 years. They sell thousands for people before they give up sweets for Lent.
It's become a tradition for many; customers travel hundreds of miles just to get a sweet bite before Ash Wednesday begins.
“It’s a tradition. They’re so good. They’re delicious. And this is the last day you can eat sweets so this a perfect one. They weigh about a pound each,” customer Johnnie Duke offered.
It's not too late to pick some up; Yummie's will be serving them up until 4 today. They are located at 2001 Tamiami Trail in Venice.
