Suspect steals, abandons car with toddler inside

- A kidnapping victim is with family, but the suspect is still on the loose and the Polk County Sheriff's Office needs the public's help to find him. 

Detectives said a report came in for a 2-year-old boy who had been taken from the Mulberry Pharmacy at 1009 North Church Avenue around 3 p.m. Thursday.

The boy was in the care of a family friend who had taken the child with her to fill a prescription.

Detectives said the woman left the toddler in the car, with the keys in the ignition, and went inside. The woman told deputies she was in the store for only a few minutes when she went back to find the car, with the little boy inside, missing.

Less than five minutes later, deputies said the found out the car and the child had been abandoned at a nearby AutoZone store. The little boy was examined by emergency medical personnel and was unharmed. He was reunited with his mother.

The family friend described a possible suspect as a white male who was wearing a black t-shirt, gray or khaki cargo shorts, and black shoes. She said he had a very short haircut and wore sunglasses on top of his head. He was seen behind the woman while she was in the store.
