Tampa police seek suspect in overnight shooting

- Police are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital overnight.

Detectives say it happened just after midnight in the University Oakwood Apartments near Fowler Avenue and University Mall.

The victim, Michael Howard, was sitting in his car when someone walked up to him and demanded cash.

Police said Howard tried to drive off, but the suspect fired several shots anyway, hitting Howard and his car several times.

Howard ended up stopping an officer nearby before he was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

Police are now searching for the suspect, but so far, they say they do not have a good description.
