Deputies: Man run over, killed by stolen van

- A man was killed approaching a van deputies said he had reported stolen the day before.

Pasco County sheriff's detectives said Antonio Pereira's van was reported stolen Wednesday in Hernando County.

Detectives said Pereira and his brother-in-law were in a car following the stolen van from Hernando to Pasco County on Thursday around 5 p.m. It was not clear what lead up to them finding and following the van.

The van pulled into a business parking lot on U.S. Highway 19.

Detectives said Pereira got out of the car and approached the van's driver, 33-year-old Bethia Linn Politis. When Politis tried to drive away, Pereira was hit. The 45-year-old died later at the hospital.

Politis was arrested and charged with murder and grand theft auto. She was taken to the Land O' Lakes Detention Center.
