NEW PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) - Pasco County deputies have arrested a man who is accused of dumping used needles in a canal behind his home.
The sheriff's office said neighbors alerted authorities after finding a container with needles inside floating in the canal. An investigation began after deputies discovered the container had been weighted so that it would sink.
The dive team was called in and several more containers were subsequently found in the canal.
Deputies said the containers were originally for parakeet seed, and similar ones were found at 57-year-old Gary Parsh's house. Parsh also raises parakeets.
An arrest report indicates that diabetic lancets and insulin bottles were found with the used needles. Parsh was charged with illegal dumping.
