Father of 2 shot, killed outside nightclub

- The search is on for the suspect who shot and killed a man outside a Bay Area bar overnight.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 1 a.m. outside the Taiga Mediterranean Grill & Bar in the 10000 block of Causeway Boulevard in Brandon.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old David Smith III, a father of two who was said to be celebrating his sister's birthday at the bar when things turned violent.

"We know there was some type of altercation. At this point we're very early in our investigation," said HCSO Colonel Donna Lusczynski. "I don't know what the argument was about, but there was a physical altercation inside the bar, and then it escalated to someone retrieving a firearm and shooting our victim."

Deputies and medical personnel arrived on scene and rushed Smith, who'd been shot multiple times, to the hospital where he later passed away.

Detectives say the shooter left the scene. They are now looking for a black man in a grey vehicle.

FOX 13 will continue with updates on this developing story.
