Sheriff: Rabbit may have been intentionally burned

- A rabbit was found with burns and the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is trying to find out who might be responsible.

The bunny was found in the 12000 block of Loranza Avenue on Sunday around 2 p.m. in North Port. Animal Services Officers went to the home after the person who lived there called for help.

The rabbit was taken to a rehabilitation clinic in Venice where a veterinarian said its injuries might have been caused by an intentional act within the last week.

Investigators said the animal appeared to be a pet. It was expected to survive.

The sheriff's office asks anyone with information about the burned rabbit to call (941) 861-9516 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers by calling (941) 366-TIPS (8477), or online at
