Missing fisherman's body found

- Clearwater police said they found the body of a missing fisherman near the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

Police say Anthony Buono, 59, of Tampa was last heard from around 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. He was fishing on the north side of the causeway, and his truck was found, but he had gone missing.

Thursday morning, Buono's body was spotted by the crew in a news helicopter on the south side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway, in the waters of Old Tampa Bay, shortly before 10 a.m.

Police said a friend of the victim reported Buono liked to fish from a sand bar near the small bridge on the west end of the causeway.

"There were no outward signs of anything suspicious, but it will be up to the medical examiner to determine how he died," a police spokesman offered.

Crews from the Clearwater Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and FWC all helped with the search.
