WINTER HAVEN (FOX 13) - Detectives in Polk County say nine men have been arrested on charges related to possession of child pornography, including a first-grade teacher at Palmetto Elementary School in Poinciana.
Investigators say they received a "cyber tip" that Juan Berrios uploaded child pornography files depicting children between the ages of 3 and 6 years old. According to detectives, they seized multiple computers from his Kissimmee home and found files depicting children as young as 6 to 8 months old.
Berrios, 64, faces 35 counts possession of child pornography.
"We are taking swift action and cooperating fully with law enforcement in their investigation," Polk County Superintendent Jacqueline M. Byrd said in an emailed statement. "The allegations against this employee are disturbing and such behavior will not be tolerated."
Berrios is currently suspended without pay but Byrd said she would recommend that he be fired.
Among the other arrests was Angel Rivera-Maldonado of Auburndale, who told detectives he works in housekeeping at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. Another suspect allegedly told detectives that he "accidentally" downloaded child porn -- every day.
"These people are subhuman," Sheriff Grady Judd offered at an afternoon press conference. "They are scary people."
