Suspect arrested after elderly man beaten, robbed

- Police have made an arrest in a brutal assault on an elderly man.

Carlos Cordero of Tampa was taken into custody this morning.  He's accused of attacking an 81-year-old man in his backyard and leaving him with severe injuries, including a fractured skull.

Officers say Cordero stole the man's car after the attack.

Police named Cordero, 47, as a person of interest in the case yesterday.  He was arrested early this morning after a tip led officers to his apartment.

Detectives say the elderly man's car has not yet been found and Cordero has denied taking it.
