Two women were air-lifted to Bay area trauma centers with serious injuries after a home invasion in a gated community Tuesday.

Hernando County deputies went to 14439 Middle Fairway Drive in Spring Hill’s gated Silverthorn community.

Deputies found one victim, 55-year-old Kathleen Perkins with traumatic injuries. Then they found the second victim, Kathleen's daughter, 27-year-old Samantha Perkins, who was able to give deputies an initial account of what happened.

She said her ex-boyfriend attacked her and her mother.

Meanwhile, dispatchers received calls from neighbors saying the suspect was running through the community. Deputies quickly caught up with 53-year-old Joseph Panarese as he tried to cross the Suncoast Parkway.

He was arrested and charged with home invasion robbery with a weapon and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $150,000.

After his arrest, deputies said Panarese complained he was injured while running from them. He was taken by Hernando County Fire and Rescue to Bayfront Health Brooksville for treatment.

Then he was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center.

Doctors said both victims were expected to recover from their injuries, but their conditions were not available. Deputies said they continue to investigate.
