Deputies: Tampa man lights home on fire; one firefighter injured

- Hillsborough County Fire Rescue teams saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of a home on the 5200 block of Gunn Highway as they arrived on the scene of a reported structure fire early Wednesday morning.

The firefighters were not alone. Sheriff's deputies also responded to the scene due to reports of a "unstable individual."

The man inside set the home on fire, deputies reported. They said there were possibly three other individuals inside.

Fire crews conducted primary and secondary searches, and found no one inside the home.

The man's family told HCFR that the man lived alone.

The single alarm fire was under control within 30 minutes, but left one firefighter with minor injuries from fighting the blaze.

Charges are pending for the male occupant.
