Earth Watch: Let's Move! Outisde

- Tampa Bay is home to beautiful scenery like the Hillsborough River State Park.

"I just think about all the animals that need help, so I like nature," said Tyreece Kelly 5th Grader at the Center of Tampa After School Center.

Many kids like Tyreece Kelly are still inside at after school programs late in the day.

"Still in the classroom, still indoors inside the gym, still in the air conditioning," said Ana Tapia Community Coordinator Let's Move! Outside Initiative Tampa.

In the Bay area, getting outside for 60 minutes a day is the goal through a partnership with the YMCA and the Let's Move! Outside Initiative. It's part of the First Lady Michelle Obama's project to reduce childhood obesity.

"They're going to get more active. If you're outside as a kid you're going to run around," Tapia said.

"You get fresh air. I'm happy to be outside. You see all the beautiful trees and the sky," Kelly said.

Through this initiative non-profits and after school programs work together.  Kids and adults spend more time connecting with nature.

"Part of the initiative's focus is to play learn, serve and work," said Tapia.

Giving back to the community too, like keeping the Hillsborough River State Park clean.

"Taking care of what really does matter. The see how Florida is all connected," she said.

Helping the Environment and having fun too.

"It's good to get to get out there and learn something new and do something different," explained Tapia.
