HCSO Shot Spotter helps deputies respond to gunfire

- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said a new detection system helped them respond to the scene of a deadly shooting early Wednesday morning, but not in time to catch the gunman.

The shooting happened at about 4 a.m. in the Revere Landings apartment complex just north of Fletcher Avenue. The gunshots triggered the HCSO's Shot Spotter Activation system, which goes off when it detects gunfire in the area.

Deputies have described how accurate it is.

"Technology is getting us there where, instead of having to wait for somebody to call something in, we're getting scientific data that puts us at a specific location," Capt. David Fleet told FOX 13.

Shot Spotter can even identify the type of weapon that was used and tell the difference between gunfire and something along the lines of fireworks or a car backfiring.

"This science uses multiple sensors to very accurately pinpoint exactly where the gunfire happened," Fleet said.

Although deputies were able to quickly respond to the scene, the shooter still got away and a victim, identified as Antonio Bradshaw, 34, was suffering from at least one gunshot wound and later died.

Detectives were able to identify a vehicle of interest which was later found but no arrests have been made.

Investigators tell FOX 13 they have surveillance video that was being reviewed by the State Attorney's Office late Wednesday.

Anyone with information should call the sheriff's office or Crime Stoppers.
