Malayan tiger cub emerges from her den at Lowry Park Zoo

- A baby Malayan tiger cub has emerged from her den at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo!

The cub's name is "Berisi," which means "plump," and since the cub doesn't have siblings to compete with for mom's milk, the zoo says she is quite robust, stout, and full of energy.

Berisi was born on Sept. 11, and after three months of bonding and nursing time, baby and mom, "Bzui," have emerged from their den and park goers will get to see them.

There are only abouty 250 Malayan tigers left in the wild, so Berisi and her mom are helping to protect the species as part of the zoo's participation in the Species Survival Plan.

Right now, Berisi is just under six pounds, but she will put on about 10 pounds a month.

Berisi is a spunky little cub that loves to climb, run, jump, play with her mother, and jump into the water.
