Largo woman recovering after pit bull attack

- Police say a woman is recovering after her neighbor's pit bull bit her and attacked her small poodle mix Saturday morning.

Investigators say the attack happened on 10th Avenue Southwest in Largo just before 11:30 a.m.

According to police, the woman was outside with her small dog when a neighbor's pit bull came loose and latched on to the smaller dog. The woman tried unsuccessfully to break the pit bull's grip on the poodle and was bitten 8-10 times, police say.

Doctors treated the woman for non-life-threatening injuries. Her dog was taken to a nearby veterinarian. The dog's condition is unknown.

Neighbors say they had worries about the pit bull's aggressive behavior before, but it's unclear if the dog has ever attacked.

The woman's husband came out of the home and shot the pit bull. Police said they had to shoot the pit bull again, killing it.

Police say no charges will be filed in the incident.
