Uber driver arrested for allegedly robbing teen

An Uber driver was arrested early Sunday morning for stealing a necklace from his 17-year-old fare according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Alexander J. Troy of Clearwater was charged with 1 count of strong armed robbery.

According to the victim, he and a friend were dropped off at a house in Palm Harbor around 2:30 a.m. That’s when they say the Uber driver became irate, claiming that their fare was canceled and that they owed him money.

At some point during the argument, Troy got out of his car and grabbed the victim’s gold necklace which the victim said was worth several thousand dollars.

Troy got back into his car and drove away. He was arrested later in the morning at his home in Clearwater.

Deputies found the necklace inside of Troy’s car along with proof that the ride had been paid for.
