Polk Sheriff: Woman stole from church donation box

- A Polk County woman is under arrest after allegedly stealing from a church.

Polk County sheriff's deputies say Annie Southerland was caught on video stealing bags of clothes and a purse from a donation box.

St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Marcum Road in Lakeland provided the video to deputies.

The sheriff says she stole on two occasions and was likely taking clothes for more than her own use.

Sheriff Judd said: "If you steal that much, you have clothes to wear and clothes to share. Clothes to sell, and dope to buy. It all works together. She didn't say she was buying dope with it. But my investigative mind says there's a good chance she was supporting a habit with it."

She was booked into the county jail on a $1,500 bond and faces several charges. The Diocese of Orlando did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
