Police: Sibling accidentally shoots, kills brother

- Police believe a child accidentally shot and killed their brother Thursday afternoon.

The Bradenton Police Department has issued a reminder to gun owners to secure firearms out of children's reach.

The shooting happened in the 300 block of 12th Ave W around 1 p.m. Police say responding officers found a boy suffering from a gunshot wound. His age was not released.

Officers began life-saving efforts and the boy was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital, but he was pronounced dead just after 2 p.m.

Detectives said they were interviewing family members and witnesses, but they believe the shooting to have been accidental.

"As an agency, we are reminding owners of firearms to keep them secure and out of the reach of children," BPD said in a press release about the incident Thursday.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Bradenton Police Department at 941-932-9300, Detective Adrian Meridan at 941-932-9326, or email crimetips@cityofbradenton.com.
